    Description

1886 Maris New Jersey Cent Auction + 1890 Chapman's Thomas Cleneay Auction
I checked every page to make sure all the pages are present. They are. I also made sure there are no major hidden defects. All pages are clean and not brittle at all.
We have a rare pair of auction catalogs here. Together, they are bound in period hardcover. The hardcover has wear and tear on sides and what have you. BUT, because the auction catalogs were bound in this larger hardcover, the content is quite fresh and without the normal edge chips normally found with these fragile paper catalogs. Having said that, other than even, minor toning of the papers, the content is nice as you will ever find. I just cannot imagine better ones existing out there, anywhere!
The first is CATALOGUE OF THE LARGE AND VALUABLE COLLECTION OF ANCIENT, FOREIGN, ENGLISH AND AMERICAN COINS AND MEDALS OF THE LATE THOMAS CLENEAY, ESQ., OF CINCINNATI, 1890. This comes with its original Prices Realized List. Because it was never bound with the volume, it does have some minor chips and a tear at its left border. The 12 plates (also not bound) are complete and are in excellent condition. They are reprints from the 1970s as I understand and worth about 0 just for these plates. The catalog is complete with all pages present. There are some hand pricing done during the auction, but they are just a few.
There was a plated copy sold in 2014 bringing ,800.00 plus 4.00 (buyer's premium) by numismatic book auction company. I bet our two catalogs are better preserved.
The second is CATALOGUE OF COLONIAL, UNITED STATES, AND PATTERN PIECES FROM THE CABINET OF DR. EDWARD MARIS OF PHILADELPHIA, 1886. This catalog comes with its preface and Prices Realized List on one page (see photo...don't know if this Prices Realized is the original or later copy...but it is included). There are also two small pastedowns cut out from newspapers, probably from the day after the auction (see photo). The catalog is complete, and it is priced by the participant of this auction in black ink (now toned brown). New Jersey coins are priced as a "set" (see photo) giving the total price for the collection.
If you want photos of certain pages or of any part, let me know, and I will send them to you.
