    THE HISTIRY OF SUSIE
ON the lower east side of New York City, an organization known as
the Boys' Club, held a pet show on April 18th 1940, for the display of
the pets belonging to the boys of the club
Snakes, white mice, canaries, cats and dogs as well as parrots,
guinea pigs, and rabbits were proudly rounded up by the boys for the
coveted first prize to be awarded. One of the exhibitors, was 11 years old,
Angelo Cigna, of Avenue A, New York
He proudly had on display, his little alley cat, SUSIE, just two months old
SUSIE  was not at all impressed at being displayed to the vulgar gazes of the boys
and she promptly proceeded to voice her indignation by miaowing  her disapproval.
The photographer of the New York Daily Mirror , Mr. Leo Lieb, idly sauntered
into the clubs room to get a few snaps for his paper and espying Susie dejectedly
poised on a soap box, placed her between equally dejected puppies but SUSIE
still voiced her objections and in the mist of a vehement miaow, she was snapped
    by MR. Lieb.
    AND THE REST IS HISTORY
The next day SUSIE had her picture in the NEW YORK MIRROR and that
paper had scarcely been on the streets before the office of the newspaper was
besieged by cat lovers for a picture of SUSIE. In self defense, the paper set up
a SUSIE DEPARTMENT and in 5 days 20,000 copies of SUSIE were sold at 50¢ each.
NO PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN HAS EVER SOLD A TENETH SO MANY IN A SHORT TIME
But the Mirror shut down issuing any more copies, as the frantic, milling mobs demanding
copies of SUSIE, disrupted the conduct of business of the newspaper
AND NOW SUSIE BELONG S TO THE AGES
N.B,    A cat cannot laugh , as her muscles will not permit her to do so. A lucky pose, a chance
of one in a million, caught at the exact angle, creates the impression that SUSIE is laughing..
