Description
Rare Persian Torah Scroll On Gevil Of Oriental Tradition, Persia, Ca 1500.
Script description: The scroll is written in oriental square script characteristic.
The letter Alef has many times the superior right appendix in an opposite direction.
The resh is sometimes shorter than the other letters and curved.
Chet of rashi.
Many kof letters seems that were replaced in their legs.
Usually this characteristic tells us that originally the leg was touching the roof of the letter.
Only in some portions of the scroll were added, probably in a later period, the tagin on the letters éâÃÂààÃÂÃÂ¥
The peculiarity is that unlike the ordinary scrolls, here are affixed only two tagin on the letter instead of three.
The source of the tagin appears first in the Babylonian Talmud (Menachot 29a), but there are not determined how many signs needs every letter.
Song of the sea - and song of Moses:
The layout of the song of the sea follows the original version of Maimonides with the final two lines divided in two sections.
This is the layout of the Aleppo Codex and the more representative Pentateuch manuscripts of oriental origin. (Ms British library Or 4445; Leningrad B19a; Ms Cairo3) (See also J.S. Penkower, A sheet of parchment from 10th or 11th century Torah Scroll...in Textus Studies of the Hebrew Univ. Bible Project vol XXI, 2002 p. 235-264)
The layout of the song of Moses follows what established by Massekhet Sofrim.
There is no double space between the verses.
No Wawe' amudim.
Very good condition, well readable, some letters are erased, some parchments damaged.
Petuchot and setumot according to Rambam.
50-51 lines.
This scroll is accompanied with a carbon test confirming its age.
