The Temple in Jerusalem was any of a series of structures which were located on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem, near the current site of the Dome of the Rock. These successive temples stood at this location and functioned as a site of ancient Israelite and later Jewish worship. In Hebrew called the Holy Temple (Hebrew: בֵּית־הַמִּקְדָּשׁ , Modern: Bēt- HaMīqdaš, Tiberian: Bēṯ -HaMīqdāš, Ashkenazi: Bēs - HaMīqdoš
The Temple was, according to the Bible, the place of Shechinah's inspiration, and it served as the permanent center of religious worship of the Jewish people during most of King Solomon's period up to the first century CE. He lived on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem and served as a center for sacrifice, pilgrimage and prayer. The Temple was the abode of the Ark of the Covenant, as was the Tabernacle before it. The priests served in the temple, with the Levites assisting them. Alongside the sacrifice, he worked in the Temple of the Great Tribunal (his later nickname: the Great Sanhedrin), who sat in the Gaza office and a parent went to the people of Israel.
The first temple was built, according to the Bible, by King Solomon on Mount Moriah, in 480 BC to Egypt. The Sages dated it to the year 2928 for the creation of the world. According to the Bible, the first temple was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. According to Jewish tradition, it was created in 3339 for the creation of the world, and according to the study it was in 586 BC.
About 70 years after the destruction of the first Temple, the Second Temple was built by the Babylonian immigrants, headed by Zrubavel at the beginning of Shivat Zion, following the declaration of Cyrus. King Herod (19 BC) has renovated and expanded the temple thoroughly.
