Mario Martin guitars are hand built in Murfreesboro, TN just 40 minutes down the road from us! Undertaking the entire build process from cutting the body blank to spraying the final touch of nitro, Mario Martin achieves a level of guitar making well beyond partscaster builders who may look alike on the surface. These guys maintain one of the best collections of tonewoods around, and every neck/body/pickup combination is chosen carefully to amplify the personality of the instrument as a whole.
Mario has pulled off a miracle here coming in under six-and-a-half pounds on a BASS! The instrument balances well and is ready to thump all night long without taking a chunk out of your shoulder. The Mojotone Clone '52 Tele Precision pickup may not be the most versatile tool in your arsenal, but it is designed to nail one thing perfectly: tight bass, dry mids and open highs that roll off pleasantly at the very top. If that speaks to you, look no further. The resonant 1-pc Paulownia body on this instrument is responsible for its ultra light weight, and you’ll find Fender using this species under the name “Empress wood” for some of their lightest-weight builds as well. Mario’s finish and relic work on this bass are sublime and the bonding experience is immediate.
How Does It Play?
The 1/4-sawn maple neck holds like no other. We didn't touch a thing on this setup when we got it from Mario. His shop really knows how to dial the whole instrument in to give the player a perfect experience. The relic work is done just right to make sure the feel is every bit as appealing as the visuals. The back of the neck is touched just lightly to make sure it is smooth in the hand but not sticky after a gig. This bass is the complete package.
