    Description

Here is a fine example of an extremely rare man's Jewish Moroccan, Tobacco Silver Shell Holder / Receptacle. It is 19th century and quite large. The Moroccan Jewish men needed the holders of snuff and tobacco to be easily carried in their long thobe dressing garments. Here is a wonderful example of natural resources being incorporated into Jewish Moroccan silver handmade production. Unfortunately, it is missing it's top. The height is 10 1/4". The width at it's widest is 3 1/2". It has been tested as silver, however, we do not know what purity of silver it is. We have provided you photographs, from the collection at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem,  of examples with one very similar to the one shown. It is photo #219. The book called "The Jews of Morocco" was published by the Israel Museum and was printed in 1983. The provenance of this piece comes directly from family inheritance. Our parents and grandparents spent time with Jewish Moroccans, helping them move from Morocco to Israel in the early 50's. Guaranteed authentic and reasonably priced.
