    1915 FLANGE BACK STAR
    OFFICIAL GIRL SCOUT ATTENDANCE
    LATER = YEARS OF MEMBERSHIP
    These metal stars with the side flanges are thought to be the first attendance stars offered in 1915.  Gold was for perfect and on-time attendance.  Silver was for one absence.  Once sewn on the uniform, it doesn't look much different than later stars.  However, perhaps you can imagine the large hole necessary to poke this metal bar through the khaki fabric.  I have one khaki uniform listed that shows the hole it makes.  (I left that one on the uniform because I couldn't cover the hole with a regular star!!)
    If you are looking to have the correct pins on an oldest of uniforms, this is the one, but you would not want to put this on a lending uniform for fear of loss.  I have "screw-back stars" for sale on other listings at a more reasonable price..
