SENIOR VOLUNTEER SERVICE BAR
GREEN for the World of Girl Scouting
1980 ONLY? or ERROR?
I
n 1980, a new color, GREEN, was made available for Service to the World of Girl Scouting.  Technically these green bars should have been enamel.  So when I acquired a few that were painted, I called them an Error Bar.
These pins were originally issued as Senior Aide Bars and were a slightly recessed rectangle,
painted
various colors, and had a J-Hook Catch
from 1953 to 1979.
In
1980, the name was changed to Volunteer Service Bars and the pins were issued with an
enamel
coating of color that was smooth instead of recessed.  Now, because recently several painted green pins  have surfaced, GS Historians are considering it an early issue of #9-199, Service to the World of Girl Scouting.  Perhaps it is the
Green Enamel with the J-hook back
that will turn out to be the more rare pin because, in 1992, the J-hook pins were replaced with a clutch back!  YIKES... makes an historian crazy!
No matter which, the painted green pins with the J-hook catch are RARE.  A MUST for the Collector.
