Vintage 1920’s Wyandotte Pressed Steel Large Toy AirplaneThis is an original and vintage 1920’s Wyandotte Pressed Steel with Wood Wheels Toy Airplane. This vintage toy airplane has beautiful lines and colors and if you are a vintage toy collector I think the recognition may be immediate. If not, this then is a classic and highly sought after vintage toy made by the All Metal Products Co (AMPC) in Wyandotte, Michigan in the late 1920's through the 1930's - this firm produced a wide assortment of inexpensive quality toys for both boys and girls under the Wyandotte Brand name. This toy airplane is clearly used but in very nice plus condition. The body and wings are solid and there are no dents the vertical stabilizer or fin does wobble from side to side but remain attached. The wheels themselves are made of wood and remain intact and are in excellent condition. The dimensions are - body length is 12” long and the wingspan is 18” wide. This airplane is a wonderful toy collectable and is hard to find in this condition. AMPC was established in 1920 it sourced and recycled scrap metal from the neighboring auto plants from the outset - in due course, becoming one of the largest toy manufacturers in the USA. Unfortunately, the advent of plastics and foreign competition in the early 1950's lead to its fiscal demise and bankruptcy in 1956 its remaining assets were thereafter acquired by Louis Marx and Company, a competing toy manufacturer.
