Description

Nice vintage girl scout membership pin probably 1940s or early 1950s.
It has the following typical features of a Type 5 membership pin as described by Cal Holden and Annelies Squeri:
4 stars
7 arrows (staggered, not even length)
graduated flat tail
the shield has top and side borders only
bent legs
11 feathers in the outer row
non-steel (not attracted to a magnet; during the war years of 1943-1945, steel was used in manufacturing)
typical safety-pin catch (which were issued earlier than other catch styles)
Variation feature:
"B" hallmark rather than the more typical "R" hallmark.
The Type 5 pin dates between 1940 and 1980. This pin probably dates to either 1940-42 or the late 40s given the earlier catch style. In good condition (please see photos).
