Description
Over the next few weeks, we will be putting for sale in our store our mother's Yemenite jewelry collection. Our mother's collection was assembled in the 70's and 80's. She took trips to Sa'na and Habban, Yemen. She purchased belts and necklaces directly from Jewish silversmiths in both Yemen and Israel. My mother wore most of these pieces throughout her life and had shown her children and grandchildren examples of these belts and necklaces in books published by the Israel Museum. This particular belt resembles almost exactly the belt pictured on a Yemenite woman in the Israel Museum publication entitled "The Yemenites Two Thousand Years of Jewish Culture". We provide you with an example of this kind of belt on page 121 worn by the woman who lived in Moshav Bareket in the early 90's. Our belt is adorned with 6 semi-precious stones. It has fringe in the shape of wheat hanging from the belt. The fringes of the belt make lovely rattle-type sounds. The belt is constructed of beautiful silver filigree work. These original Jewish Yemenite silver pieces are extremely rare today. The belt is separating in 3 places but is still in semi-prestine shape. The circumference of this belt measures 33". It weighs approximated 1 1/2 pounds. We believe this belt was made in the 60's in Yemen. No refunds/returns on this item. Guaranteed authentic and reasonably priced. Please feel free to contact us for more photos or information!
